I've asked for it to come back (cause there was a password locking in the very old versions) and I would love to have this come back... But I received the same responses that you have gotten so far. So that's why I'm not posting up too many of my maps. n00bs will just ruin them. Cause I know I've came across a few games where they took my Zm_Monastery_666 map, and added a lazer and super armor to it. That is just pathetic.
So what if a map is edited? Tiles were probably not made by yourself, it's a 2d game, and your map probably sucks anyway. Get over it. (To people who actually want this function in cs2d)

Ok I want to know if I get it
For you it's ok if I, for example:
Take any file I want, something like this Transcript Lua Experiment 1.07 [TLex] (66)
Edit everything I want, for example, I can add a msg saying something like "..Script name here.. by ..Someone's name here (i.e. me)", and I can delete any trace of ..insert original creator's name here..
Use it on any server adding a download link of the file as ..Someone's name here.. creation (not uploaded in Unreal software).
And those are the steps to get a file's credits without any big effort (ok, the step 3 isn't really necessary).
of course this is just an hypothetical case, but if I get it, for you it's ok since you aren't insecure.
What's really the purpose of password protecting the maps? I just never get that. I'm quite sure no one really minds having their map improved by someone if they add just proper credits for it.
I doubt it has come to the point that there needs password protection just yet. Just think about it.
Well it does sort of remind me of that thread about revenge ratings and stolen uploads, so yeah. It wouldn't look right if the guy who improved the map removed credits of the original author, true story.
It would feel rather lame actually, it has happened alot that some guys want to improve my map, and they forget to add credits to original author of the map but still I think map protection is like adding too much locks on your door (metaphorically speaking), so there's no point in doing that. Really I doubt that it would even protect your maps unless you're encrypting the maps with AES and doing more than just apply password protection to the maps.
The best solution I could think of if it has not been mentioned yet is that if you don't want your maps to be edited, simply do not upload it. Someone in this thread mentioned super armor and lasers which were added to his map. So why would you really care? People (most likely kids, in case with lasers and super armor) are just having fun with your map, then it means that they like it, isn't that what you have always wanted?
